Get your spot in the bracket

Anyone can play. You do not need a partner, a team, or any experience pitching washers. Sign up on your own and we will place you in the bracket. There is no registration deadline, though signing up early helps us get the t-shirt and BBQ plate counts right.

  • Entry into the single-player tournament bracket
  • Official 2026 tournament t-shirt
  • BBQ plate on the day of the event
  • Access to the silent auction, games, and raffle

Spectators are welcome and there is no charge to come watch. Extra BBQ plates are $10 and can be bought in advance. On the day we take cash, all major credit cards, Venmo, and PayPal for the raffle, silent auction, and donations.

  6. Championship round and awards

Never pitched a washer? Good.

Slanted three-hole boards, twelve feet apart. The middle hole scores 3 points, the raised back hole 2, and the one nearest you 1. Rock paper scissors decides who throws first.

Go over 21 and you bust back to 11 plus however much you went over, so the middle hole is not always the one you want. Every year about half the bracket has never played competitively, and there are game monitors on hand all day.

  • 21 points wins a game
  • 2 of 3 games wins a match
  • 12 ft between boards, 15 ft from the quarter finals on
  • 20 min time limit per match, most points advances

Donate to the silent auction

The silent auction runs all day and it is one of the biggest pieces of what we raise. Gift certificates, tools, tickets, weekend stays, and gift baskets all do well. Local businesses donate most of what ends up on the table.

Email us and we will take it from there. Items can also be dropped off at Quality Fasteners, 10507 IH 35 North, San Antonio TX 78233.

Why we do this

Quality Fasteners has been in business in San Antonio since December 1982. Larry and Jill Matula built it on the idea that you give back to the community that carried you, and at every family gathering a game of washers broke out sooner or later.

When somebody suggested combining the two at a company picnic, the pairing was obvious. Sixteen years later it is still the same park, the same boards, and the same barbecue.

Every dollar the tournament raises goes to The Children's Shelter of San Antonio. Sponsors cover the costs so nothing comes off the top.

Questions

Do I need a partner or a team?

No. This is a single-player tournament. Register on your own and we will place you in the bracket.

I have never played washers. Can I still enter?

Yes, and plenty of people in the bracket are in the same spot. There is a rules briefing before play starts and someone will walk you through it at check-in.

Can my family come watch?

Yes, spectators are free and welcome. Additional BBQ plates are $10 each and can be purchased ahead of time so we can get the count right.

What should I bring?

A folding chair, sunscreen, and a way to pay for the raffle and silent auction. We provide the boards and the washers. Canopies are welcome if you want your own shade.

What happens if it rains?

We decide on the day. Safety comes first, so keep an eye on this site and your email for the latest word.

Is my entry fee tax deductible?

For a larger gift, donate directly to The Children's Shelter, which is a 501(c)(3). Reference Washers for a Cause so we can add it to the tournament total. We are happy to deliver the donation for you if that is easier. We are not able to give tax advice, so check with your accountant on what is deductible.

How can I pay on the day?

Cash, all major credit cards, Venmo, and PayPal, for donations, the silent auction, and the raffle.

Where does the money actually go?

100% of tournament proceeds go to The Children's Shelter of San Antonio. Since the first tournament we have raised over $175,000 for the shelter.
